Charlie is a conductor, workshop leader, singer and arranger based in London. He graduated from the University of Manchester in 2018 with First Class honours and has since been working successfully as a freelance musician in the North West and now in his hometown of London.
Charlie’s work covers a wide spectrum of music-making: from amateur singers to young people and professional musicians. He is currently Musical Director of Stafford Choral Society and The Epworth Choir in Woking, as well as a Choral Leader for the Southwark Diocese School Singing Programme. Previously, he has held the posts of Director of Music at the Manchester Oratory; Musical Director of Cantores Olicanae in Ilkley and Assistant Conductor of Stockport Youth Orchestra and Kinder Youth Choirs. In addition, he has worked with high-profile institutions such as The Hallé and The Sixteen with whom he has been a community and workshop choral leader; as well as Manchester Collective, for whom he has recently prepared the children’s chorus in their production of Britten’s Noah’s Flood for the Manchester International Festival.
From 2023-24, Charlie was the Conducting Scholar for The Sixteen’s prestigious Young Artist Programme, Genesis Sixteen. From 2020-22, he was the Young Conducting Scholar with Crouch End Festival Chorus.
Outside of conducting, Charlie is a freelance Tenor and has a wealth of experience as a soloist and choral singer. He has performed solos in Haydn’s Creation and Nelson Mass, as well as Schubert’s Mass in G and Mendelssohn’s Elijah. Chorally, he has sung with Kantos in Manchester since 2018, which has taken him from Rome and Assisi on live BBC Radio to recordings on Decca and Delphian.
